ETHYLENE PLANT CAUSTIC WASH COLUMN RECONSTRUCTION

Execution Time from: 08/2008
to: 10/2008
Execution Stage
Lump Sum Turn Key
Client UNIPETROL RPA, s.r.o.

The project was started due to a critical condition of one the essential equipment of the ethylene unit – caustic wash column, providing final purity of produced ethylene and propylene. Intecha carried out reconstruction and revamp of an existing unused column to the new caustic wash column.

The project was executed as a turnkey project. It was based on a process designed by Intecha. The reconstruction consisted of assessment of the unused column, dismantling of the existing insufficient trays, modification of the column, installation of distributors and structured packing, and it further included installation of new circulation pumps, piping connections and instrumentation.

With respect to the critical condition of the ethylene unit, the reconstruction was carried out in an extremely short period of three months (from the initial negotiations to a successful start-up). The main objective of the project was to start the new caustic wash column so fast that the production of the ethylene unit did not decrease and the required quality of ethylene and propylene was achieved.
